Following the tragic death of his brother Pierrik, who was killed by a driver a decade ago, Hugo has aligned himself with causes that work to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the road.
He initially volunteered as an ambassador for Nez Rouge, a Quebec-based charity that encourages responsible behaviour when it comes to drinking and driving by enabling communities to provide a free and confidential chauffeur service to their members.
In 2024, Hugo has become a road safety spokesperson with Parachute, Canada’s national charity dedicated to injury prevention that supports Vision Zero: a future with zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads. You can learn more about Parachute’s work and Vision Zero at parachute.ca/visionzero.
Hugo is also involved in a program for children and adolescents called « Jouez gagnant! », of the Ministère de l’Éducation, de l’Enseignement supérieur et de la Recherche du Québec. This program’s main goal is to promote the ethical values and the benefits of sport and of physical education, by conferences offered by different athletes.
